The strategies that drive employment and skills investment are focussed at different levels: some are European while others are national or more local.
Long-term unemployment is damaging to individuals and communities, it affects mental and physical health, and holds back economic growth. The Government wants to help people into work and make sure that work pays. In return, people on out-of-work benefits have opportunities available to them to move off benefits and into work.
Local strategies include those of the Local Enterprise Partnerships who are private sector-led, private-public partnerships tasked with driving the economic strategy for their areas to drive growth and create local jobs.
